Understanding The Growth Spurts In One’s Child

Infant growth spurts are a matter of concern for most parents because the parents need to be prepared to handle their baby during these phases.
Defining a growth spurt
In order to prepare themselves parents first need to understanding the meaning of a growth spurt and how to identify the signs of such a phase. A growth spurt is a time during the baby’s development that increases the height and weight of the baby. In the first year of the kid’s development around five growth spurts can occur.  The first spurt can occur in the second week and the last one can take place when the baby is around six months old.
Signs of growth spurts
In some cases a baby undergoing a growth spurt may not have identifiable symptoms and the growth spurt phase can simply enhance the weight and height of the child. Periodic visits to the doctor who measures the weight will be able to tell if there is an increase. Usually the increase in weight and height is significantly high after a growth spurt. 
The usual signs that indicate that the child is undergoing a growth spurt can be regarded as a definite deviation from the normal routine of the child which can be in the form of increased or decreased sleep which means that babies that slept soundly for hours suddenly suffers from lack of sleep or vice versa. Cantankerous behavior of kids is also associated with the effects of a Infant growth spurts. Another indicator is increase in food intake. Babies that are hungrier or needs to be fed more frequently than usual is also seen as a sign of growth spurt. The best thing that any parent can do to handle the effects of a growth spurt is to take cues from the behavior of the child and act accordingly.
